The Spectacle Of Bodicea
Country Market, February 2004
The Legend of Bodicea is a real tear jerker of a display for which Nina has been training over the last ten months. The emphasis of the display is on the historical side of things - horses at war - providing a profound reminder that the blood of horses as well as of humans was shed in past battle. Visually it's a fascinating and informative production, one which only enjoyed a few outings in 2003 due to the demand for the ever-popular Spanish dancing horse displays that Nina also participates in.
Like all of the horses Kuchina Johnson expertly trains, Nina has learned two displays - one of which is a solo performance. Looking every bit the lady that she is, Nina is groomed meticulously, and never has a 'bad mane day'. Graceful best describes her walk, magnificent her canter and her presence in shows is nothing short of spectacular.
As an actress Nina matches Hollywood's finest - often causing a whisper of concern amongst the crowd due to the fake blood she sometimes sports. The close relationship between horse and rider is obvious right from the outset, the dedication the two have to each other makes a beautiful sight. In her outings last year, the duo thrilled audiences with amazing speed and agility, all of which is a precursor to a dramatic finale that generally doesn't leave a dry eye in the house. With good reason, for while war is the theme, Kuchina is quick to point out that one war is one war too many. In all Bodicea is a heart-breaking tale of a woman, a horse and a war - told in a fashion never before attempted.
